Network Rail have formally shifted the dealine for removal of the footbridge to October 2018. This gives Friends of Alton Station time to raise funds and to make detailed plans ready for the lift-out. We are lucky enough to have a retired bridge design engineer, a retired TfL engineering assett manager, and an expert in timber structures on our team. With this expertise at our fingertips, we are confient that we can work with network Rail and its contractors to plan a cost-effective way to remove the centre section of the footbridge for repairs off-site.

The main problem is raising the required estimated cost for removal of £170,000. We have one donation of £10,000 to help us on the way, but if you are able to help out our project, we will be entirely grateful. Not only is it a way of saving an important piece of railway history, it is also useful for those using the station to catch trains up to London. In other words, it is a very practical historical asset that deserves to be restored back to its former glory.

If you would like to make a donation, please go to our Donate page. The page also has our prospectus for you to download.
