Alton Links

Whether you're visiting Alton between steam trains, visiting relatives, on holiday or on a business trip, there's plenty in and around Alton for you to do. The town centre offers a good range of shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels, and you don't have to go far to find public open spaces and the countryside beyond. Alton is nestled in an enclosed valley, so if you feel like walking, there are good views of the area from the surrounding hills. We are one of the gateway towns for the South Downs National Park, so you might like to base yourself locally to explore the delights of our rolling hills and historic towns.

If you're looking for things to do in the town and the nearby villages. Alton has the Curtis Museum, Allen Gallery and Mid-Hants Railway (Watercress Line). You don't have to go far to visit Jane Austen's House Museum, Chawton House Library, Gilbert White's House & the Oats Collections, Lasham Gliding Centre, Bird World, Alice Holt Forest and a number of good garden centres. If you are wondering why Alton Towers is not listed, that's because it's in Staffordshire, 184 miles north of here! And just to be even clearer, we are in Hampshire, UK.

Alton has a programme of popular town centre events, and other events are held in Alton's many other venues and open spaces. All the attractions listed hold their own programmes of special events, so there's usually something to see and do. Here are some helpful local websites for further information:
